Auditor/Counter: counts and deposits money from weekend collections. Contact: Dave Stafford 465-4221

Adult Faith Formation Class: bi-weekly session conducted by Fr Roger. Annual topics are discussed in depth using biblical passages, relevant resources and visual aids. Classes are held September through May. Contact: Fr Roger Schoenhofen, OMI 465-4221

Altar Society/DCCW: serves to provide faith sharing for the women of the parish and to raise funds for various needs of the sanctuary and sacristy; meets monthly on the first Tuesday.

Athletic Committee: supports Athletic Director by reviewing programs and developing guidelines, promote youth and parental involvement. Contact: Aurora Schiber 465-4630

Baptismal Preparation Program: conducts program to prepare parents for their child’s baptism.

Cantor: leads singing, responsorial psalms and acclamations at liturgical celebrations.

Deanery Council: participate in Alton Deanery, serves as a liaison between the parish and diocese.

Eucharistic Minister: assists in distribution of communion when needed. Must be 18 years of age, a practicing parishioner, training required. Contact: Julie Noel 465-4221.

Finance Council: serves in an advisory capacity to the pastor regarding financial matters. Meets quarterly on the third Tuesday.

Friends In Need: prepares meals for families and friends after funerals. Supported completely by volunteers and donations.

Gift Bearer: presents hosts, wine and collection basket at the offertory of Mass, requires no training. Families and individuals are encouraged to volunteer.

Gift Shop: provides religious items for sale, many seasonal items. Profits are returned to the parish.

Greeter: arrives fifteen minutes prior to beginning of Mass, receives and welcomes all who enter the church, assists visitors, and passes out bulletins after Mass. No training required.

Home Lay Minister: delivers the Blessed Sacrament to parishioners unable to attend Mass. Same rules as Eucharistic Minister.

Lector: proclaims the scripture readings at Masses, training required. Contact: Julie Noel 465-4221.

Legion of Mary: participates in weekly hospital communions and nursing home rosary services, visit the afflicted, delivers communion to homebound parishioners.

Liturgy Committee: coordinates liturgical services. Supervises decorations, music, staffing, and ministry duties. Meets monthly, second Tuesday.

Maintenance Committee: plans repairs to all physical building and grounds. Prioritizes projects and submits proposals for capital improvements. Meets monthly, every third Thursday.

Mass Prep and Clean-up: prior to Mass prepares supplies needed for Eucharistic Celebration. Remains after Mass for clean-up and prep for next service. Stores all material after final weekend Mass. Training required.

Old Cathedral Christmas Bazaar Committee: coordinates annual fundraiser for St. Vincent de Paul Society. Volunteers always needed – no training.

Old Cathedral News Publication: prepares quarterly publication of parish newspaper. Reviews submitted articles and arranges lay-out of the paper.

Parish Office Volunteer: answers phone and door on weekends and weekdays as needed. Take messages and answers questions.

Parish Pastoral Council: serves in an advisory capacity to the pastor in guiding the growth of the parish, a unifying force bringing all of the diversified sub-groups and committees into harmony. Communicates relevant information into the parish community. Meets monthly, every fourth Tuesday.

Parish School Association: coordinates activities related to the school. Forum for communication between staff and school parents. Conducts fundraising activities.

Parish School of Religion: provides religious learning environment for public school students, kindergarten through Confirmation. Classes held weekly on Sunday mornings during school year. Sacramental preparation program for First Communion, First Reconciliation, and Confirmation. Contact: Ellen Frederick 466-9430.

Prayer Chain: contacts parishioners using phone-tree to pray for special intentions.

Pro-Life Committee: promotes the pro-life agenda of the Church. Supports Arms of Love Crisis Pregnancy Center. Coordinates local activities/protests with other organizations.

R.C.I.A. Team: provides Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults for anyone joining the Catholic Church. Meets weekly from September through Easter.

Server: assists priest at Mass and other liturgical functions. Open to youth in fifth to twelfth grades, training necessary.

Share the Word: provides a children’s Liturgy of the Word for kindergarten through sixth grade during specified Sunday Mass. Some training required.

St. Vincent de Paul Society: a charitable organization funded by parishioners to provide assistance to those in need. Help available for everyone in the community.

Social Concerns/Stewardship Committee: promotes parish-wide stewardship participation with emphasis on involvement through use of time and talents. Meets monthly on fourth Monday. .

Trustee: represents the parish to the diocese and vice versa; appointed by the Bishop after recommendation by pastor and Parish Pastoral Council. Both serve as ex officio members of the Parish Pastoral Council.

Usher: seats congregation and assists parishioners and visitors as needed, takes up collection. No training needed.

Vacation Bible School: provides summer fun and faith experience for parish youth, kindergarten through sixth grades.

Youth Ministry: provides youth in our parish with the opportunity to share a Christian experience with each other. Regular outings and activities are planned. Opportunity to participate in local, diocese, national and international activities.
